Find the Best Wedding Photographer for you in Prairie du Chien, WI
Searching for the best wedding photographer for you in Wisconsin can be… overwhelming. But that’s okay! There are many ways to get a feel for a professional wedding photographer’s style and values.
SCHEDULE A CONSULTATION CALL
First and foremost, get them on the phone. Even better, meetup for coffee. And ask tons of questions! If you're unable to meetup and prefer not to talk on the phone, this step can potentially be done via text or e-mail, but face to face (or atleast voice to voice) conversation can be much more effective. This is a great opportunity to get a feel for the photographer’s true personality. As a photographer myself, a phone call is always my first step before the booking process for a few reasons.
Speaking via phone or video chat allows the person on the other end to get to know you on a more personal level. Yes, photography is my profession, this is my ‘job’, but in reality wedding days are hardly at all strictly business. It is so important that your photographer meshes well with you, your partner, and the important people in your wedding.
Over a call or coffee is a great time to let them know your likes and dislikes. Be clear about this, and if you're unsure what to look for, start asking them questions, and see if you agree or not! Ask about their experience. What is their style? What is yours? The more you communicate, the more likely your vendors will know exactly what you’re looking for, and can deliver that for you.
INTENSELY PERUSE THEIR WEBSITE
A photographer’s website should appeal to you increasingly as you learn about their brand. Does what you see fit your personality? Is their portfolio consistent? Does their style go with your wedding’s vibe/aesthetic? Are they a large company, small team, single shooter? Do they have any testimonials or reviews displayed?
SCHEDULE AN ENGAGEMENT SESSION WELL IN ADVANCE
What better way to understand what the experience will be like working with a photographer than to give it a shot? An engagement session can be the perfect way to put a photographer to the ‘test’, and will most likely give you a better idea of what to expect from them on your wedding day.
If, for whatever unfortunate reason, something was off with your engagement session, now you still have time to reach back out to other photographers about your wedding.
Other topics to consider....
- Style (Editing, posing etc.) What is your style? What do you like or dislike in other wedding photos you have seen?
- Specialization/Expertise
- Experience the photographer gives you as a client - both leading up to AND on wedding day itself (Help planning, calls or meetup prior to discuss details, timeline assistance, overall vibe, work style, etc.)
- Availability
- Turn around time
- Personality (Be sure it fits with yours!)
